General recommendations for oral care

Oral care for young children and the elderly.

It is known that oral care is difficult for both young children and the elderly because they either don’t have teeth at all or there are few of them. Lack of manual dexterity or the ability to clean the mouth can also become a problem. In such cases, we recommend using:

texOral tongue scraper with antibacterial microfiber pad;

texOral special antibacterial microfiber fingerbrush or gauze wrapped around the finger;

Help small children brush their teeth and check that the amount of toothpaste on the brush is as little as possible.

Tooth brushing.

The prevention of dental and gum diseases is mainly based on very good mechanical cleaning of the mouth.

Correct, safe and effective tools and techniques ensure good dental health.

You can brush your teeth manually or using an electric aid (electric toothbrush).

The most important thing is the right technique, extent of cleaning, pressure and time.

The electric toothbrush is held motionless for 2-4 seconds on each tooth surface with light pressure.

When guiding the toothbrush with your hand, it is important to make a sweeping movement from the gum toward the tooth. It is not necessary to press the brush too hard against the tooth.

Try to brush your teeth in a circular motion.

Do not press the toothbrush too hard on the teeth. If you feel that the toothbrush is no longer cleaning well enough, use a new brush.

Clean between the teeth with Vitis floss by moving it back and forth until you are in between the teeth, now floss up and down.

For better interdental cleaning, use the Interprox interdental brush.

Special Vitis Electric toothpaste is used for electric toothbrushes. Normal toothpaste is too abrasive and intensively wears away tooth enamel.

Brush all tooth surfaces (external, internal and chewing surfaces).

Cleaning between the teeth.

The best tools for cleaning between the teeth are dental floss, toothpicks, mouth pressure washer, and interdental brushes.

Toothpicks should be wooden and triangular shaped so that they fit better between the teeth. Wooden sticks are not dangerous for tooth and gum tissues. The stick is moved back and forth between the teeth without applying excessive pressure up to 10 times per gap.

When using dental floss, it is important that it cleans the interdental spaces without any trauma and removes all food particles from there. Dentaid threads are recommended, as they expand and become bristly when in contact with saliva. The interdental spaces are cleaned with the floss while moving up and down, pressing the floss first against the front and then the back surface of the tooth (it is important to clean both adjacent tooth surfaces).

A water jet is directed between the teeth with a pressure washer.

The metal part of the interdental brush is covered with plastic and the ends of the bristles are rounded. Therefore, the risk of injuring tooth and gum tissues is reduced to a minimum (the Interprox interdental brush is very good), the interdental brush is moved horizontally back and forth between the teeth 5-10 times, and toothpaste is applied to the bristles.

Cleaning the tongue.

Most of the microbes that live in the mouth live on the tongue. Special tongue scrapers (texORAL) have been developed for their effective removal.

The tongue scraper is moved from the back of the tongue to the front and rinsed under water after each stroke. Then, a special antibacterial microfiber pad is placed on the other side of the scraper, which is used to clean the tongue with circular movements from front to back.

Toothbrushes.

Vitis toothbrushes are:

with teeth and gum-friendly fibers (Tynex) with rounded and polished ends;

easy to clean;

with a bendable handle (it can be bent as it warms up, preferably not more than once, according to the dental arch);

with a protective tip (prevents the bristles from contacting other microbes found on toothbrushes and maintains the shape of the fibers);

taper at the end, ensuring better cleaning of the back teeth; a special brush is used according to the situation.

Recommended is:

brush the teeth at an angle of 45° with slightly circular movements from the gum towards the tooth (the toothbrush cleans 1-2 teeth at a time;

the duration of tooth brushing is about 2-3 minutes; do not press too hard on the toothbrush;

rinse the toothbrush and dry it after each wash; always put a special protection on the bristles so that the brush lasts longer and does not carry an infection;

change your toothbrush at least every 3 months (a worn-out toothbrush damages the teeth and gums);

brush your teeth after every meal.

Dental floss.

Most cavities occur in the spaces between the teeth because the microbes that live there are often not removed. Dental floss removes germs from between teeth without damaging the gums and teeth.

Vitis dental floss perfectly cleans between teeth and dentures.

How to use: Place the dental floss in the gap between the teeth with light back and forth movements, while in the gap, gently move the floss to the gum and make up and down movements. Remove the thread. Floss should be used every night before going to bed.

Interdental brushes.

Interdental brushes help remove dirt and germs from places a toothbrush can’t reach. Special interdental brushes must be used to clean interdental spaces, prostheses, bridges, implants.

Interprox brushes: they have Tynex bristles, the metal part is covered with incredibly thin plastic, does not damage gums, teeth or implants. White bristles indicate bleeding gums and black bristles indicate plaque.

These interdental brushes are reusable.

How to use: Place the brush horizontally between the teeth or prosthesis and the gum at the level of the gum. Move gently back and forth without a rotating motion. After use, rinse the brush under water and store.

Mouthwashes

Mouthwashes containing alcohol should be avoided, as they dry out the oral environment. It is recommended to use mouthwash daily according to the problem. Mouthwash is certainly helpful in a situation where there is no toothbrush, but it is necessary to clean the teeth.

Mouthwashes help to clean those places where mechanical washing cannot reach (between the teeth, gums). Mouthwash can be used as recommended by the manufacturer. There are therapeutic mouthwashes (Desensin, Perio-Aid, Halita, Xeros) as well as preventive mouthwashes (Vitis Xforte, Vitis Gingival, Vitis Orthodontic, etc.).

Usage:

It is usually recommended to take 20 ml of mouthwash at once, rinse the mouth and gargle for 30-60 seconds and then spit the solution out.
